Closed terrarium care guide
Congrats on the adoption of your new closed terrarium!
Here, you can read up on some tips to make sure your tiny, self-contained ecosystem thrives and grows.
I don't want to get too hot!
Place your terrarium in a bright, indirect light spot. Direct sunlight can cause the terrarium to overheat and kill the plants.
Keep me clean!
Prune any dead or dying leaves from the plants inside the terrarium, if possible. This will help prevent any potential fungal growth.
Don't let me dry out!
Water your terrarium sparingly, only when the soil or sand looks dry. Sometimes you won’t need to water for 6 to 12 months! Only use distilled or rain water.
Put a cork in it!
Keep the lid on the terrarium to maintain humidity levels. If you notice a lot of condensation, remove the lid for a few hours to allow the terrarium to air out.
I make my own nutrients!
Do not fertilize your terrarium. The plants inside should be able to survive on their own for a long time.
We like makeovers too!
If mosses or plants start to look overgrown, and it's looking a little too green, a little tidying up and cleaning of the glass may be needed. Clean cotton swabs are my go to!
